Calgary’s Best Internet Cafe: The Purple Perk

Purple Perk Coffee Market I’m spoiling the secret, but some things are too good to keep to oneself: the best place in Calgary to get a free wireless hook-up for your laptop is on 4th Street SW, between 22nd & 23rd Ave, at the Purple Perk Coffee Market. It isn’t an Internet cafe per se — there are no terminals that you can borrow — but its a perfect setup for wireless-enabled laptop owners. There are plenty of comfortable tables, all with electrical outlets in the baseboard, and there is a strong and free 802.11g signal. They even have good food! Their free wireless network is fast too — I had a video conference on it using iChat, and it was as smooth as it is on the high bandwidth connection at the office. In fact, if I lived in Calgary, it would probably be my office. I have a feeling that the Purple Perk and I will have a long and gratifying relationship, even though I only visit the city a couple of times per month.

    Im an employee at The Perk, and I think it’s great you are letting people know about our cafe’s benifits! You might also want to mention that internet use is restricted to NON peak hours, (that is kind of logic, you know, not taking up a table during lunch…) and also that we are trying to encourage people to share a table when using the internet! You know, cozy up, make a new friend! We are just trying to please the internet-junkies as well as the coffee-junkies!

    The Purple Perk is a great place for internet. I could safely call it Calgary’s Best as well!

    I live in Mission and visit The Purple Perk all the time for my Latte and ‘Net fixes. Good coffee and food, nice atmosphere, free wireless, and a beautiful area.

    It doesn’t get any better than that!
