The controversies are all in the politics. There’s no controversy in the science. If you look at the data, it’s pretty clear. The nutritional system in medicine is a mess. It’s a scandal. … It’s impossible now to do any real science on nutrition. The USDA, the NIH, the American Heart Association — they have a particular opinion. If you’re a young investigator, and you want to even question any of those ideas in any significant way, you’re dead in the water. There’s no chance that your grant will be funded, and if you do the experiment anyway, it will take you forever to get the thing published.
I recognize that this is a pretty strong statement, but that’s really the state of things.
