About
Brent Kearney
I work for the University of British Columbia at the Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery, which is located at The Banff Centre, in Alberta, Canada. I provide and manage all information technology services for the operation, including systems administration (Solaris, Mac, Linux), web development, support for staff and scientists, strategic planning, IT infrastructure, as well as digital media production and distribution.
I’m an Apple Certified Systems Administrator, and my consulting company is Netmojo Systems. In addition to supporting Macintosh systems and networks, Netmojo Systems also builds websites. Project management for outsourced software development is also a service that I provide.
Although I’ve been working with computers for over 20 years, I graduated from Simon Fraser University with a major in philosophy. I studied in several other departments along the way, including engineering, business, and psychology. I enjoyed philosophy most, and was particularly interested in philosophy of mind and cognitive science.
While I’m not working, I’m often mountain biking, rock climbing, trail running, skiing, or reading. I read a lot.
On this weblog, I post whatever I find interesting. My latest research topic is nutrition and it’s relation to human health from an evolutionary perspective. I’m also in awe of the accelerating pace of technological development, especially at the intersection of health sciences and information technology. There are numerous links to information about these interesting topics along the left side of this website.
