About
Brent Kearney
I learned to program a computer at an early age and although my life has consisted of a great many activities, computing has remained a central aspect of it. I work for the University of British Columbia at the Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery, which is located at The Banff Centre. I handle all aspects of information technology for the research station and it’s staff.
I’m an Apple Certified Systems Administrator, and my consulting company is Netmojo Systems.
Despite the centrality of computing in my life, I graduated from Simon Fraser University with a major in philosophy. I studied in several other departments along the way, including engineering, business, and psychology. I enjoyed philosophy most, and was particularly interested in philosophy of mind and cognitive science.
While I’m not working, I’m often training for Adventure Racing, or rock climbing, skiing, mountain biking, enjoying good food, or reading. I read a lot.
On this site you will find my musings on a range of topics that I find interesting. Lately that includes the idea of a technological singularity and issues surrounding transhumanism and radical life extension. There are numerous links to more information about these exciting developments along the left side of this website.
I also post random other stuff that I feel like writing about, including technology tips that I think people may find helpful. For example, my How to Copy Files Off of Your iPod and How to Disable Cellular Internet Access on the iPhone articles are quite popular.
